Not all metabolic research compounds act on incretin receptors. AOD-9604 and 5-Amino-1MQ both appear in fat-metabolism research, but one is a fragment of growth hormone and the other is a small-molecule enzyme inhibitor. This guide explains how each works and how they compare with the GLP-1 family.

AOD-9604: separating fat metabolism from growth
Growth hormone influences both growth and fat metabolism. Early research suggested that the C-terminal region of the hormone carries much of its effect on fat breakdown. AOD-9604 is a modified version of that fragment, developed to study lipid-metabolism activity without growth hormone’s wider effects. Research looks at lipolysis and lipogenesis in adipocyte models and at whether the fragment acts through the GH receptor at all. AOD-9604 research profile.
5-Amino-1MQ: blocking an energy-wasting enzyme
NNMT is an enzyme highly expressed in adipose tissue. It transfers a methyl group to nicotinamide, using up a building block that cells would otherwise recycle into NAD+, and it consumes methyl donors in the process. 5-Amino-1MQ inhibits NNMT, so it is used to study how cells handle NAD+ recycling, methyl balance and energy use in fat cells. 5-Amino-1MQ research profile.
How they fit beside GLP-1 compounds
The incretin compounds (semaglutide, tirzepatide, retatrutide) act through hormone receptors with wide effects on appetite and glucose. AOD-9604 and 5-Amino-1MQ act more directly on fat-cell metabolism, making them useful for adipocyte-focused models and for separating central from peripheral effects.
GH-related lipid metabolism: AOD-9604.
NAD+ and methyl-balance research in adipocytes: 5-Amino-1MQ, often with NAD+.
Fatty-acid oxidation and mitochondrial fuel use: L-Carnitine (LC120 / LC216).
